Where we started
Always & Furever was born in 2018 from a single dog named Libby — a six-year-old with bone cancer whose family could not afford treatment. We amputated her leg, freed her from pain, and gave her the eight best years of her life on three legs. Libby was the first answer to a question we keep asking: what if no animal ever had to be turned away because of the medical bill, the age, or the fear?
Why Homestead East
Our first campus — the Red Barn in Spring Hill, Kansas — is full. Land of Oz in Osawatomie holds our first Lighthouse Lane. And still, every day the phone rings with animals we cannot yet take. Homestead East is the answer: 31.6 acres at 5990 S. Noland Road in Kansas City, Missouri, purchased in February 2024 as a step of faith.
Two years later, faith became a place. Clinic plans were finalized in April 2026. Civil plans were revised in July 2026. And on August 24, 2026, we open the gates to the public with one ask: help us open the doors.
What $1.4 million builds
1. St. Francis Homestead Hospital
Our first fully-owned veterinary hospital, named for the patron saint of animals. Surgical suite, dental, diagnostics, and outpatient care — so no rescue animal ever waits weeks for the treatment they need today. Sooner care. More second chances.
2. Nine Lighthouse duplex sanctuaries
The first nine units of what will eventually be a 30–40 unit village. Each Lighthouse is a tiny-home-style duplex — a private, decompression-first space for two animals (or one animal and a foster) to rest, heal, and be seen. No kennels. No cages. Just light.
3. Site work and opening readiness
Utilities, drives, fencing, landscaping — the invisible work that turns 31.6 acres of pasture into a working sanctuary campus. Boring line-items. Absolute prerequisites.
Why $250, and why 5,600 of us
Because this is not a campaign built on one big check. It is a campaign built on 5,600 people who look at Libby, and Hagan, and Ace, and Marshmallow, and say yes — I'll be one of them.
A gift of $250 — a single payment, or spread across the 100 days at about $25 a week — makes you a Dream Builder. Your name is permanently attached to the opening of Homestead East. You receive a sequential number (Dream Builder #1 through #5,600), a mailed certificate, and a place in the story we will tell for the rest of this rescue's life.
The 100 days
- August 24, 2026 — Giving Day. The campaign opens to the public.
- Rolling — 100 stories, 100 days. One rescue story every day.
- December 1, 2026 — Giving Tuesday. The 100 days close. The doors open.
